This is a short 3D animation film that I have worked for over 7 months for school personal project. I went through the processes of creating a short film, which incorporated steps such as screenwriting, planning, conducting voice acting, modelling, texturing, animating, editing, and so on. While the full story couldn’t be told due to the time constraint, the story within the film shows an astronaut being woken up, then encountering an unknown creature.

Writing script has been a new challenge, but it helped to set the foundation of the entire film. Several revisions and drafts have been made in order for the script to be more exciting and make sense.Prototype animations or animatics were created to bring what was written in the scripts and what was in my head into life. In this stage, I experimented with camera angles, focal length, pace and speed of the animations, and how the animation played out overall, and found out what worked and what did not.The astronaut model was purchased online in order to save time and focus on animation. However, in order for these models to fit the desert environment, sand textures were applied to these models, and custom symbols to substitute NASA were also applied. The robot companion from the film has been modelled and rigged, inspired by mars rovers and robot dogs created by Boston Dynamics. In order to give the robot more emotion and connection with the audience, a small screen was placed in front of it that displayed emojis inspired from early 2000s.All the models and props were later imported into a single master file, which later was used for animating the final film.Animation for each shots which were around 5 seconds took about a day or two to complete.
