My Skills

This was a short animation created in a style of 90s style commercial based on a weapon skin Prime Vandal from VALORANT. Models were simplified, rendered in lower quality, and retro TV effects were applied in After Effects to make them look like an actual old footage.

My main inspirations came from old Nintendo 64 commercial from 1990s, which had much more primitive objects and animations due to technical limitations.

To recreate this look, I have applied all the 3D models retro plastic shader, which gave the overly smooth and reflective look.

In the beginning of this project, I have considered creating a simplified-version of the characters and applying lower quality textures on them, but realized the it would have made the project much more difficult than it needed to be. The method I ended up using was used modifiers on models to make the models look more primitive.

In order for final result to look much more older and have primitive quality, I have set low 3D output settings. I’ve also applied post processing effects such as CRT effects using After Effects, which helped to sell the look further.

While researching 90s commercials, One thing that stood out a lot was over exaggerated and energetic voice overs in the commercials, especially for advertisements targeting younger audiences. I recorded my voice in a tone of the 90s TV commercials, then applied filters for the audio footage to sound older.

This project allowed me to explore parts of animations that would not be typically used. From totally different aspect ratios, quality, lighting, and the primitive but expressive motions the days of old animation incorporated. It certainly took me out of the comfort zone, try new things, and find adapt to the challenge.
